Volunteer Alberta
Volunteer Alberta is a member association in Alberta focused on strengthening volunteerism and civic engagement. Its mission is to support the well-being of communities by creating conditions under which volunteering and civic participation can thrive. It offers resources and services to nonprofits (such as training, webinars, toolkits, manuals and consulting) to help them improve how they recruit, screen, manage, and engage volunteers, as well as helping them with boards, corporate partnerships, startup processes and best practices. It also offers support to volunteers directly, helping connect them with opportunities and empowering them in their community engagement. Volunteer Alberta bases its work on core values of curiosity, care, collaboration, authenticity and courage, and it is committed to equity, inclusion and reconciliation, acknowledging Indigenous land and drawing from Indigenous knowledge systems. Established in 1990, it has served nonprofit and volunteer-engaging organizations across urban and rural Alberta. For 2024-2026 it has set strategic priorities around connecting networks, collaborating with and among its members, creating change at systems level, supporting research and piloting new models of engagement.
